Banana Reef is part of North Malé Atoll and has been famous with divers since long ago, as one of the first dive sites on the Maldives Islands. This dive site got its name from the underwater curve on the western edge. Divers may be attracted here to the marine biodiversity, good quality of coral coverage, interesting snorkeling, depth, and drift diving.

When to go

The season lasts from December to May, with the best diving opportunities from late May to July. The low season is from June to November. The visibility is more than 30m/98ft. The water temperature is 26-29C/79-84F, although there can be sudden rushes of cooler water in deep areas. Manta rays and sharks are present in Banana Reef throughout the year.

What to see

Divers can see pinnacles, overhangs, caves, colorful coral formations, squirrelfish, bannerfish, oriental sweetlips, grouper, sharks, jacks, blue-striped snappers, and barracudas.
