Batu Gendang is a dive site on the southern part of the west coast of Lombok. It is unlike any other site in the region, because it consists of enormous rocks spread out at the bottom, which gives divers the experience of being in an underwater labyrinth. Divers are strongly recommended to bring hooks.

When to go

The best time to dive at Batu Gendang is from April to November, during the dry season. The average water temperature is 27-30C/81-86F. The air temperature varies from 26-28C/79-82F.

What to see

Batu Gendang is home to large schools of sweetlips. This site is also known for frequent sightings of bigger marine life such as Napoleon wrasses, whitetip reef sharks, tuna, trevallies, and barracudas. Recently there have also been reports of schools of manta rays passing through the site.
