The Halaveli wreck, also known as Highly 18, sunk in 1991. It is a 40m/131ft- long lying 2km/1,2mi northwest of the island of Halaveli, Maldives. It can be reached in 15 minutes by boat from Halaveli. The bottom of the wreck stuck in the sand, while the bow points up toward the northwest. The distance to the nearest reef is 20m/66ft. It has many openings that are easy to penetrate and worth exploring. The recommended time for diving is in the evening when the stingrays arrive and start being active. This site is also good for underwater photography and night diving.
When to go
It is possible to dive at the Halaveli wreck year-round, but the best time to dive is from December to May. The rainy season is from June to November. The average water temperature is 26-29C/79-84F, and the air temperature is about 28-30C/82-86F.
What to see
The Halaveli wreck is home to small turtles, large moray eels, and barracudas. The wreck is covered by corals and is full of small tropical fish of different colors and shapes. It is easy to spot parrotfish, surgeonfish, grouper, blennies, shrimp, nudibranchs, stingrays, and angelfish.
