La Bandera is located south of Isla Mujeres, in the national marine park of Bahia Mujeres. Bandera reef is a long coral reef topped with elk-horn coral.

When to go

Average annual air temperature varies from 29C/84F to 35C/95F. The rainy season runs from June through October-November, while the dry season is December through May.

What to see

The national park harbors schools of barracudas, moray eels, large crabs, angel fish, stingray, trigger fish, turtles, lumberjacks and pampano that swim over the reef. There are also plenty of ledges and overhangs, which makes for a fascinating, fun-filled underwater adventure.
