Scuba diving in Las Marietas
Originally made famous by Jacques Cousteau in the 1970's, the Marietas Islands Marine Reserve has now become one of the most popular areas in Western Mexico for scuba diving. Part of an underwater mountain range that peaks above the ocean's surface, the Marietas Islands mark the entrance to Banderas Bay from the Pacific. Divers may see manta rays, eels, octopus, and even sea horses as well as a wide variety of tropical fish and other sea life. Depth ranges from 15m/49ft to 35m/114ft and visibility is good, 10-30m/32-98ft. This site is suitable for both novice and experience divers.
When to go
Scuba diving is possible all year round, though hurricane season, which lasts from June to October, may make it difficult.
