Scuba diving in Lhaviyani Atoll
Lhaviyani Atoll, also known as Faadhippolhu Atoll, is a group of 54 islands. The area is famed for its beauty and abundant sea life, and some of the best scuba diving sites in the Maldives. Divers can discover here walls, reefs, caves and pinnacles. Diving and Liveaboards here is available for divers of all levels of experience. The dive sites of Lhaviyani Atoll are full of marine life, including sharks, mantas, rays, turtles, hundreds of butterflyfish, Napoleon wrasse and plenty of unicornfish, lobsters, barracuda and more. The sessile life consists of some sea whips, black coral bushes, small fans, table corals and sponges. Among popular dive sites located off Lhaviyani Atoll are: Felivaru Kandu, Kuredu Express, Kanuhura Corner, Kuderu Caves, The Shipyard, Fushifaru Kandu, Fushifaru Corner.
When to go
Diving in Lhaviyani Atoll is all the year round but the recommended are the period December to May, when the seas are at their calmest. The average air temperature is around 30C/86F. Water temperatures averages around 26 to 29C/78 to 84F.
