Manta Sandy is located close to Mansuar Island. The site is a cleaning station, which features small coral bommies in the narrow channel located between the main reef and a smaller one, lying slightly to the south. Coming here, divers get a chance to see a group of about 10 giant mantas at just 15m/49ft depth, waiting in line above the two rocks for wrasses that clean these giants. Sometimes, manta rays appear only when there is a current. Divers can get close to the mantas, but it is important not to approach the rays too closely as they may leave the area and not return for a long time. Just half an hour away from this spot, there is another site, known as Manta Ridge, where mantas can also be spotted.

When to go

The best season for diving is from mid October till April. The average water temperature stays between 26C-30C/78F-86F.

What to see

There divers can see some 4m wide manta rays, some of them are totally black while others have various white markings. Butterfly fish and numerous cleaner wrasses can be seen at that site.
