Cozumel is a year-round destination with a tropical climate. The rainy monsoon season begins in May and can last until mid-October (September and October being the wettest months of the year). The high season for diving is from December to March. The average air temperature stays between 24C/75F and 31C/88F. The average water temperature stays between 26C/78F and 29C/84F. The water visibility usually exceeds 40m/131ft. The currents are generally constant and remain moderate, between 1-2 knots, although in some cases may intensify to strong, so divers are advised to check conditions before submerging.
What to see
Among marine species occupying the local waters, divers may spot 26 types of corals and more than 400 fish species. Some of the most interesting include splendid toadfish, trigger and tang fish, schools of jack, moray eels, eagle rays, grunts, stingrays, groupers, parrotfish, octopus, Hawksbill turtles, angelfish, nurse sharks and even whale sharks.
