C-55 and C-58 served as Mexican Navy Minesweeper during the World War II and were sunk by the Mexican Army. C-55 Gun Ship is an interesting dive mainly because of its history and the variety of marine life the wreck has attracted. C-58 Minesweeper is also known as General Anaya. Divers can swim around the entire ship as well as enter it; though the vessel is split in two, all the ship’s rooms are accessible to divers. Divers should observe weather conditions when doing this dive. It is not recommended to dive at this site in bad weather.
When to go
The average water temperature remains warm and even with small deviations between 29C/84F in the summer and 25C/77F in the winter. While it's better to dive during the dry season, which lasts from December through May, diving season is open throughout the year.
What to see
There is a possibility to penetrate the wrecks, which are colonized by different species of fish, including trigger fish, starfish, seahorses, porcupinefish, parrot fish, octopus, lion fish, jelly fish, grouper, green moray, damselfish, barracuda, sharks and angel fish. The wrecks also receive an annual visit from large schools of eagle rays that migrate here in the winter months.
