About Grand Port

Grand Port District is situated on South-Eastern part of the island of Mauritius This district is the best if divers came to explore the great variety of local marine life. Pointe Jerome, la Pointe-d 'Esny and Blue Bay are the most beautiful places on the island. The blue waters of the lagoon, prestine beaches, coral reefs with bizarre forms leave no visitor indifferent. Especially unforgettable is "Blue Bay "site which is full of beautiful corals. The lagoon is also a great place for novice divers. The average depth of the lagoon is about 6-10m/19-32ft and many species of coral and fish can be seen even in a small cove. There are a lot of dive sites in South-East part of the island, such as Colorado, Roche Zozo, Grotte Langouste, and also the Sirius wreck (18m/59ft).

When to go to Grand Port

Diving here is available year round. The best time for a vacation is between October and May. However, in the period of January through March there can be cyclones, though they are mostly mild and may just cause an insignificant drop of the air temperature. The average daily air temperature during the year is 23-32C/73-89F, the water temperature 23-27C/73-80F.

 

What to see

The variety of marine life in the area is remarkable. Almost all types of tropical fish of the Indian Ocean, including the black and blue marlin, barracuda fish and dorado can be found here.
