About Tenerife

Tenerife is an island off the coast of Africa, in the Atlantic Ocean, and is one of the Canary Islands. Tenerife is the largest and most populous island in the seven Canary Islands, and also in all of Spain. Tenerife is served by two airports, and each year it receives over 10 million visitors due to the high quality of its hotel infrastructure, the wide range of leisure activities, the world's largest carnivals, lots of museums, beautiful natural protected areas, and the Teide National Park. Tourism is more prevalent in the south of the island, and resorts such as Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos, and Costa Adeje are very well developed. Tenerife's coastline is rugged and steep, but there are almost 67km/41mi of sandy beaches, in particular much finer and clearer in the south of the islands. Tenerife is also a favorite place for scuba divers, especially the area along the east coast and in the south. Diving here is a spectacular experience as the volcanoes have given Tenerife an original sea floor, it allows access to an underwater world of enormous beauty, with spectacular rock formations of volcanic origin, caves, tunnels, sheer walls, wrecks and around 1000′s of species of aquatic life. There are various deep dive sites, some of them 40m/131m and beyond. 

When to go to Tenerife

Diving in Tenerife is available all year, though the period from May to October may be preferable due to warmer water. The rainiest months are from November till March. Average air temperatire varies from 18C in winter to 27C/64-80F in summer. Average water temperature ranges from 19C/66F in February to 24C/75F in August. The visibility is good, about 20-30m/65-100ft. The currents are usually slight.

 

What to see

Marine life includes such beauties as yellow gorgonian sea fans, angel sharks, stingrays, wrasse, parrotfish, puffers, turtles, scorpionfish, moray eels, garden eels, cuttlefish, octopus, lobsters, jacks, barracudas and many others.

There are over 60 dive sites around, and some of the best are El Condesito, Los Chuchos, El Puertito, Yellow Mountain, Las Eras, Radazul, Roncadores del Faro, Meridian wreck, Playa Paraiso, Marazul, Palm Mar Cave.
