Mallorca is an island in the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is an extremely popular holiday destination, and its Palma de Mallorca Airport is considered to be one of the busiest in Spain. Mallorca has 550km of coast, so it is famous for sunny beaches and coves, amazing landscapes, and wonderful mountains. Mallorca has a wealth of historical buildings and cultural experiences (festivals, concerts, and literary events). Some of the places worth visiting are Serra de Tramuntana on the northwest coast, Deià, Valldemossa, and of course Palma de Mallorca (outstanding for its historic old town and excellent night life). The main attractions of the island are the Palma Catedral, Bellver Castle, Castell d'Alaró, Palma Aquarium, and others. There are even four marine reserves. The biggest one is in the south of Mallorca (Cabrera Marine Reserves). Its clean, clear waters are ideal for water sports such as scuba diving, fishing, sailing, and surfing. The waters around the island are full of marine life. Scuba diving offers different types of dives, such as coves, caves, wrecks, walls, arches, and tunnels.
Most popular dive sites
Among the most interesting dive sites are Column Wreck, Three Caves, Illa del Toro Marine Reserve around the island of El Toro, Big Cheese, Caló des Monjo, Isla de Sec. The “Column Wreck” lies on a sandy bottom with Neptune grass at a depth of 14m/46ft. Three Caves is a popular dive site here that consists of three separate caves with rock columns forming “the Cathedral”, through which sunlight enters and flashes around the formations.
